Five Minute Friday: Look

It's time for another Five Minute Friday post, were we write for five minutes flat. All on the same prompt that Lisa Jo posts at 1 minute past midnight EST ever Friday. And we connect on Twitter with the hashtag #FMFParty from 10 pm - 12 am. It makes me tired but happy :)

No extreme editing; no worrying about perfect grammar, font, or punctuation (although to be honest, I always worry about font. Is that strange?). Unscripted. Unedited. Real.

PS: next week I'll be doing this LIVE at Allume. In the same room as Lisa Jo. God is too good to me sometimes :)

Five Minute Friday (and FMF Party) Meet -Up At ALLUME

But here we go for today:
Five Minute Friday
It’s easy to join in, just:
Check what the prompt is on Lisa Jo's blog.
Write a post in only five minutes on that topic on your blog.
Link over at Lisa Jo's and invite friends to join in!
Be sure and encourage the person who linked up before you!
Today's prompt: Look

Go!

Have you ever wanted to stop someone when they ask you how you're doing and wish they really meant it? That they would stop and really look at you when they ask?
Look at the way your eyes shine a little, the way your smile doesn't quite make it all the way up?

I'm heading to a conference next week. To Allume. Where I know I'll want to be all things to all people in all places and not miss a single moment.
But I think God wants me to create some margin while I'm there.
To stop and really listen to someone.
To look past the cute outfit, the welcoming smile, the "big blogger" status and listen for their heart as we chat.

If I'm going to spend time away from my family I want God to use me, grow me, and draw me to Him.
I want to see Him. In the friendly faces and beautiful fall trees. In the kindness of strangers and snuggles with babies. In a room of 400 and over coffee with 1.

I want to look, and see what your heart says when I ask "how are you?"

So, how are you today, my friend?

Stop.

I always think when people ask how I am if they are really paying attention and really want to know. Your post reminds me of a challenge I took one day, to be truly intentional all day about looking in people's eyes and truly listening. It was tough, but it was also really rewarding. I hope that you are totally in the moment and blessed at your conference!

  8. Seriously love this friend. I know that your heart is tender about this for a reason and I also know that He will definitely use you there. I really can't wait to hear about it. Blessings.

  10. Love it! And thinking about doing this live with Lisa Jo and all you guys is like... Whoa. Kind of surreal and a teeny bit terrifying. I can just see a complete and total brain fog and my hands going all gimpy on me as I sit staring blankly at the screen. Or not. I guess we'll see.

Anyhow, enough about that. I am totally feeling the same way. I know I'll be on a semi huge rush just meeting everyone but I want to be led not lost or overloaded. Praying with you friend.

  11. All too often, we don't want to hear or tell the truth...we lost that opportunity of fellowship, encouragement, love and joy right here....right now.

  12. I love this, Crystal...and I so get it! I went to Relevant last year and knew no one. It was an eye opening experience....some people REALLY look, while others just scan your face, outfit, etc.

I hope we get to meet in person...I'll be at the FMFparty LIVE!!

  13. Love this. And yes, too often we're already thinking about our next comment without really being ready to just listen when we ask the question. Enjoy yourself next week. I have no doubt God has some special stories for you to hear.

  14. I love your heart. God will use hearts set on His purposes and not our own next week. I'm inspired. I can't wait to see you, and thanks for not noticing the size of my blog or that my pants don't *quite* fit right. ;)

  15. So true - I usually gloss over my response with "fine" because I don't want to scare someone away or receive pity. Or be perceived as something I'm not. I love the thought that being authentic can give someone else the opportunity to use the gift of encouragement that God gave them!
